i know it's lame to post someone else's poem as a blog entry, but i don't care. i love this. for lots of reasons. today it feels easy to tumble right into it. in fact, it almost feels necessary.

somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look easily will unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skilfully,mysteriously)her first rose

or if your wish be to close me,i and
my life will shut very beautifully, suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;

nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility: whose texture
compels me with the colour of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing

(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens;only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

So ee cummings wrote that line! I've known and liked that image for a while, but I've not seen the rest of the poem.

Thanks for making the connection for me.

well, maybe not so lame to post a poem after all :) yes, that's ee cummings. hands down my all-time favorite line in a poem. the rest of it is pretty great too!

OMG!! That is my favorite poem of all time. It was one of the readings at my wedding. Not only do I love his poetry, I love how he's all about the lowercase letters. Such a rebel, that e.e. cummings.

ee cummings and kd lang, something to be said for artists who humble themselves with lowercase letters and step out of the picture in order to let their brilliance shine.

I love this poem - it's as rich as the voice of one of my favorite singers.

Thanks!
